In August and September we work on the rules and procedures for our Workshops.
We also learn about making connections to the books we read.
Here are some of the great things we learned!

How To Writing

We wrote our own nonfiction books that include a table of contents, labels and other nonfiction conventions.

Creating Mental Images Unit
We read the poem, My Neighbor's Dog is Purple by Jack Prelutsky.
I read the poem WITHOUT reading the last two lines and the kids drew their Mental Image. Then, I read the entire poem and the kids drew their new mental image. We placed their drawings side by side to mount in their Memory Books. These turned out adorable!
We read, My Father's Dragon and drew our Mental Images of the dragon. The kids also had to list the evidence from the text to support their Mental Image.
